Queer Combat
A beginner friendly class specifically for queer and trans folks.
Free every Friday at 7:00 PM.
Masks required.
Note: All our classes and the techniques and movements therein are opt-in. Students are encouraged to ask the instructor for modifications to movements if needed. Misfit Combat understands that training may trigger trauma responses in some participants. A student is welcome to step off the mat if they need to do so. In all Misfit Combat classes, training is done without injury to participants or their partners through a focus on safety, with an emphasis on control and proper technique.
Ground Fighting

Queer Combat ground fighting classes introduce fundamental Brazilian jiu jitsu techniques that are self defense applicable to participants. A brief introduction while stretching begins the class, then fundamental movement drills to warm up. A technical movement is shown and discussed by the instructors. There is ample time for questions during class and Instructors are ready for additional coaching when practicing begins. With a training partner each participant gets to practice the movements. At the end of class, time is set aside for feedback to understand how students felt the class helped them and how the instructors can better help students in the future. There is the opportunity to spar at the end of class for those interested.
This class occurs every first and third Friday of the month. Participants should wear comfortable exercise clothing like medium length shorts or sweat pants and a tee shirt for class. Underwear and exercise clothing must completely cover the armpits and the crotch due to the close nature of training. Participants should tie up long hair and trim finger nails prior to class.
Striking

In the Queer Combat striking class, Muay Thai and boxing strikes are introduced and practiced. Class begins with a brief introduction by the instructors. Warm ups consist of stretching, shadow boxing, and foot work. Participants learn how to throw strikes correctly and hold the pads during work out rounds. There is ample time for questions. Instruction is geared toward beginners however more advanced strikers can get additional coaching. At the end of class, time is set aside for feedback to understand how students felt the class helped them and how the instructors can better help students in the future.
This class occurs every second and fourth Friday of the month. Participants should wear comfortable exercise clothing like medium length shorts or sweat pants and a tee shirt for class. Participants should tie up long hair and trim finger nails prior to class.
Community Self-Defense

Queer Combat Community Self-Defense curriculum is a practical skills class that introduces participants to group self defense strategies and techniques. Instructors discuss scenarios where de-escalation or self defense might be necessary, and possible strategies, team tactics, and techniques to apply to the scenario. Participants can practice the skills, reactions, and techniques in the group. Questions and discussion is encouraged.
This class occurs every fifth Friday of the month. Participants should wear comfortable exercise clothing like medium length shorts or sweat pants and a tee shirt for class. Participants should tie up long hair and trim finger nails prior to class.
Queer Combat classes are made free to participants by the collaboration of Traction Project and Misfit Combat.
