Brazilian Jiu JItsu

Adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Classes

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art, a combat sport, and a self defense system created and popularized by the Gracie family from the Judo that Carlos and Helio Gracie learned from Mitsuyo Maeda. Its main focus is grappling (wrestling) that utilizes throws, holds, and submissions.

Misfit Combat provides well rounded Jiu Jitsu instruction for the beginner and the recreational practitioner including competition preparation for those who are interested.

Participants should wear comfortable exercise clothing like medium length shorts or sweat pants and a t-shirt for No-Gi practices. Underwear and exercise clothing must completely cover the armpits and the crotch due to the close nature of training. Misfit Combat has Gi uniforms available for beginners as they try out classes. Comfortable exercise clothing is worn under the Gi. Please arrive a couple minutes early if you need to try on a Gi uniform for practice. Participants should tie up long hair and trim finger nails prior to class.

Note: All our classes and the techniques and movements therein are opt-in. Students are encouraged to ask the instructor for modifications to movements if needed. Misfit Combat understands that because Jiu Jitsu is a physically close combat sport where some positions are uncomfortable, training may trigger trauma responses in some participants. A student is welcome to step off the mat if they need to do so. In all Misfit Combat classes, training is done without injury to participants or their partners through a focus on safety, with an emphasis on controlled sparring rounds and use of proper technique.

Class ends with a traditional line up and hand shake with instructors and training partners. The 60 minute class is of moderate intensity.
